OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Canine Assistants, we believe that dogs who are asked to improve the lives of people in need deserve themselves to lead happy lives. So, rather than focusing only on teaching our dogs to perform tasks on command, we educate people and dogs so they may enrich the lives of one another.

BOND-BASED APPROACH

At Canine Assistants, we believe strongly in the Bond-Based Approach to living and working with dogs developed by our Founder, Jennifer Arnold in 2012. The Bond-Based Approach is a philosophy rooted in the belief that mutually beneficial relationships are those in which trust, respect and confidence combine to form deep and lasting connections.

BOND-BASED CHOICE TEACHING

Our dogs are educated using Bond-Based Choice Teaching (BBCT) developed by Jennifer Arnold and Judy Luther in 2014. BBCT is an educational protocol based on social learning which focuses on giving the dogs the skills and information they need to appropriately control their own behavior rather than training them to respond robotically to cues or commands.
